My MawMaw is extremely special to me. She has taught me so much throughout my lifetime. One of those lessons, many years ago, was how to bake a cake from scratch. I don't ever recall a time where she made a "box" cake. My absolute favorite cake that she bakes is Red Velvet cake. As a child, she baked this cake for Christmas every year. It's just something about Red Velvet that screams Christmas! She now bakes me one each and every year for my birthday.
This year, for her birthday, I decided to make her a layer cake but I wanted to bake one that she had never tried. I searched Pinterest and immediately found #InaGartens #chocolatecake. I had nearly all the ingredients on hand so I decided to give it a try. Plus, it was chocolate and that's something she enjoys, but what female doesn't love chocolate, right??
This cake was super easy to make and the instructions were easy to follow. The hardest part was not diving into the cake before I gave it to her.
Her response when seeing the cake....."Well, your cake looks about as good as mine." This cake was absolutely delicious. My mama said she thought it was the best cake she had ever tried but I still think my MawMaw's hold that title.
